Student Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Opportunities


The Department of Student Diversity & Inclusion supports student success. Often financial hardship becomes a barrier which adversely impacts a student's ability to be successful. SDI offers assistance in the form of scholarships that can be earned through academic success, campus involvement and community service. 

*Thomas & Pierce Scholarship

The Thomas & Pierce Scholarship was established in honor of the institution's first two African-American students, Drewnell Thomas and Robert Pierce. This scholarship was established to commemorate integration at Valdosta State University and serve as a lasting symbol of the university's commitment to cultural appreciation and diversity. This scholarship will benefit first generation college students who maintain a 3.0 grade point average and remain in good academic standing at Valdosta State.

S.B. Walker Empowerment Scholarship

The S.B. Walker Empowerment Scholarship was establish by Attorney Karla L. Walker to honor the matriarchs in her life that encouraged her educational pursuit and career goals; her mother Sarah C. Walker and her aunt Blanche Walker-Yelverton. A product of a single parent household, Atty. Walker's mother along with her aunt and extended family ensured she always set her goals high and helped her achieve them. Atty Walker excelled in high school and received her undergraduate degree from Yale University as a direct result of their love and support. This scholarship is open to African-American females from single parent homes, with a 3.5 GPA, pursuing a career criminal justice or education.

SDI Flame Ally Scholarship

The SDI Flame Ally Scholarship was established to acknowledge the student who selflessly champions the cause of diversity and inclusion within our campus community. The recipient of this scholarship not only embraces diversity and inclusion, but embodies the core values of the Blazer Creed:civility, integrity and citizenship. The recipient of this scholarship must be nominated by faculty or staff.
