Welcome from the WGSS Coordinator
Welcome to Women's & Gender Studies
|
On behalf of the Department of Women's & Gender Studies, I’d like to welcome you to our program.
Valdosta State University’s Women's & Gender Studies program is an interdisciplinary field of scholarship devoted to the study of women and gender as a social construction, one that intersects with class, race, age, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and sexual identity. In WGSS, we explore the connections between academic inquiry and personal life, therefore, students are expected to be active participants in their own learning. We now offer classes both online and in the traditional classroom to meet the needs of students.
Our coursework teaches students how to advocate for themselves and for those who are marginalized and vulnerable in society. Our faculty and students are both scholars and feminist activist, pursuing intellectual work and achievement with a vision of social justice.
We invite our minors and students to join us each year with our study abroad to Ireland in which students can explore gender, sexuality, and culture outside of the Unitied States. Whatever you are majoring in we invite you to become a WGSS minor or to take our classes. It is the one program that is applicable to every work field and major on our campus and beyond.
Feel free to reach out to me by email or phone if you have any questions about our program or study abroad.
