SPRING 2025 -
VSU's NEW Theatre / Performing Arts Center!

Valdosta State University and the College of the Arts are collaborating with Cogdell & Mendrala Architects of Savannah GA, H3 Design Firm and Theatre Projects – both based out of New York NY, to realize a new Theatre/Performing Arts Center on VSU’s north campus at the site of the “Ashley Street Cinemas."

Ashley Cinema

This ~42,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility is in the construction design phase with the architectural firms and theatre consultants. The contemporary design of the building plays on the traditional architecture of the main/historic campus, with a grand entrance, spectacular interior lobby, and performance spaces including; a ~370-seat proscenium theater/second floor mezzanine, black box lab theater, and academic and production support spaces.

Theatre PAC Floor Plans

This theatre performance facility is an investment in the future of VSU’s growing Theatre and Dance programs and is supported by the University’s Strategic Plan with a projected completion date of December 2024. It will enhance the visibility of the Arts for VSU, the South Georgia region, and the theatre/performing arts community. VSU’s leadership, faculty, staff, students, and key stakeholders have been vital to this design process – from ideation, programming, and design direction, to the final stages of the facility’s development.

Through modernization and innovative performance spaces and classrooms, the new performance facility will serve as a gateway to connect our community and campus, create a space for 21st Century productions, serve VSU’s academic programs and Georgia’s own Peach State Summer Theatre, and respond to the challenges of an ever-changing industry.
