Eligibility

To be eligible for CAMP you must:

• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (with a current Resident Alien Card)
• Be admitted to VSU as a freshman
• Be a migrant (migratory)/seasonal farmworker or immediate family of a migrant (migratory)/seasonal farmworker OR any student who has participated or is currently participating in the Migrant Education Program (MEP) or National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP)
• Be a student eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid

Definition of “migrant farmworker”.  A migrant (migratory) farmworker is a seasonal farmworker whose employment requires travel that precludes the farmworker from returning to his or her permanent place of residence within the same day.

Definition of “seasonal farmworker”.  A person whose primary employment is in farm work on a temporary or seasonal basis, (that is not a constant year-round activity) for a period of at least 75 days within the past 24 months.

What family members are eligible to participate in CAMP?  An individual who, or whose immediate family member, has spent a minimum of 75 days during the past 24 months as a migrant (migratory) and/or seasonal farmworker.

The term “immediate family member” means:

1. Spouse – the definition of spouse is governed by the laws of the State of Georgia
2. A parent, step-parent, adoptive parent, foster parent, or anyone with guardianship
3. Claims the participant as a dependent on a Federal Income tax return
4. Resides in the same household as the participant and supports that individual financially, and is a relative of the participant
