Chemists also play a role in industry by designing and manufacturing products that are more environmentally sustainable. As an environmental chemist, you can make chemical reactions more environmentally friendly by improving their efficiency, reducing chemical waste, harnessing alternative sources of energy to reduce fossil fuel emissions, and increasing the use of recyclable materials. In fact, you will learn about a whole field of study called Green Chemistry that addresses these issues. Chemists with these skills are in high demand. What You'll Learn

The Environmental option provides you with a well-rounded education in Chemistry along with non-technical knowledge such as environmental ethics and philosophy that help you make wise decisions that benefit the environment. You will learn theory in the classroom and apply that knowledge in laboratory courses and field work. Yearly seminar series
help you learn effective study skills, find an internship, give presentations with confidence, and choose a career.

Cost and Length of Program

Students meeting pre-requisites for first-year courses can graduate within four years with a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Chemistry, Environmental option.
