About this field
Every successful scientist can name a teacher who inspired them. That teacher could be you! A VSU Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a Pre-Teaching option provides you with a well-rounded education in Chemistry in the classroom and the laboratory. The Pre-Teaching option adds education classes which prepare you for pursuing teacher certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree that you can earn at VSU also. Teaching is a rewarding career that is always in demand, especially for Chemistry graduates. Make a difference every day in the lives of your students by sharing with them your knowledge and passion for Chemistry.
The Valdosta State Difference
Your Chemistry degree program with a Pre-Teaching option is flexible to suit your interests while also developing a strong foundation in Chemistry. You will work closely with faculty from both the Chemistry program and the Dewar College of Education and Human Services in a student-focused, supportive, and caring environment. Research-quality scientific instrumentation and laboratory space is available for you to use. You can even work with a faculty mentor to perform chemical education research. You gain practical, hands-on experience in both Chemistry and Education as you build your resume and, more importantly, prepare for success as a teacher.
What You'll Learn
