About this field
Chemistry majors study materials and energy at the atomic scale. You’ll apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems, make new materials, and create a better understanding of the world around us. With a Pre-Professional Chemistry degree, you will contribute to the greater good of society by applying your scientific knowledge and skills. You will also prepare yourself for a stable, well-paying, and rewarding career in the chemical industry, government research facility, or non-profit organization.
The Valdosta State Difference
As a student in VSU’s Pre-Professional Chemistry degree program, you will work closely with faculty mentors in a student-focused, supportive, and caring environment. Research-quality scientific instrumentation and laboratory space is available for you to use so that you can learn and gain practical, hands-on experience. You can even perform your own research with a faculty mentor. Our Pre-Professional Chemistry degree gives you the opportunity to build your resume and, more importantly, prepares you for success in your chosen career. Join your peers in the student affiliates of the American Chemical Society, an organization that provides educational, technical, and professional opportunities for its members.
What You'll Learn
The Pre-Professional Chemistry degree provides you with a well-rounded education in chemistry while also giving you the chance to learn health sciences, engineering, computer programming, or any other subjects that interest you. Our faculty will share their knowledge with you so you learn theory in the classroom then apply that knowledge in laboratory courses, field work, and research. Yearly seminar series help you learn effective study skills, find an internship, give presentations with confidence, and choose a career.
Cost and Length of Program
