What does Career Opportunities do?
Career Opportunities is involved with all phases of career development: helping students choose a major, gaining relevant experience while in college, and finding employment upon graduation.
Can you help me find a part-time job?
Career Opportunities maintains a listing of off-campus jobs in areas such as administrative, retail, child care, manufacturing, social services and sales. Bring your VSU ID with you to the office for complete job and contact information.
I don’t have a major. Can you help?
Career Opportunities has trained professionals that meet individually with students to help them assess their interests, skills, values, and academic aptitudes. Once students narrow their major options through the use of inventories, the counselor guides them through the decision making process.
I’m uncertain of my choice. Can you help?
Career Opportunities has trained professionals that meet individually with students to help them assess their interests, skills, values, and academic aptitudes. Once students narrow their major options through the use of inventories, the counselor guides them through the decision making process.
What if I have a major but am not sure of my career options?
A comprehensive career library is located within Career Opportunities that offers both print and on-line publications and materials for research. Elect to schedule an appointment with a career counselor to assist with reviewing career options and goals. Do I need an appointment to speak with a counselor? If you need general information about your career or the Career Services office, just stop by for a visit. If you need one-on-one assistance, make an appointment with a counselor.
Is there a charge for taking assessment inventories?
There is no charge for currently enrolled VSU students seeking individual assistance, but there is a nominal fee for people within the community and alumni that are currently one semester beyond graduation.
Can Career Opportunities assist me with resume preparation?
We critique resumes and related correspondence for VSU students and alumni. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for your resume to be critiqued once you drop it off. If you don’t have a resume, come by the office to pick-up a resume packet or select the Resume Packet link on the main page. You may also bring a draft of your resume by the office during Resume Walk-In Hours for some quick feedback.
