VSU offers GRE seminar
Valdosta State University will offer a free seminar, Preparing
for the Graduate Record Exam, at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. The seminar will
be held in the West Bainbridge Middle School auditorium in
Bainbridge, Ga. Attendants are asked to call ahead to reserve a
seat.
The program, taught by Dr. John Hummel, is designed to reduce test
anxiety and explain what the GRE evaluates, how the test is scored
and strategies for achieving the best possible score. The seminar
will be especially helpful to students who have not been enrolled
in formal education for a number of years.
Dr. Victor Morgan, director of the VSU Counseling Center, suggests
this event for anyone who is considering taking the GRE. "For many
students, the fear of failure or doing poorly on a test creates
very intense feeling of anxiety resulting in diminished
performance, " Morgan said. "With help, students can gain control
over their test anxiety by learning and practicing new behaviors
which will improve performance and increase their level of
relaxation and confidence."
