South African contemporary art is focus of upcoming VSU Lecture
Valdosta State University's Spring Focus Series 2004 will hold a
special lecture on Monday, February 23, titled ?Contemporary Art in
South Africa: From Resistance to Reconciliation.? The speaker will
be Jessica Stephenson, associate curator of African and Ancient
American Art at the Michael Carlos Museum in Atlanta. The program
begins at 7 p.m. in VSU's University Center Magnolia Room #2. The
lecture is free and open to the public.
Stephenson's lecture is part of the overall Spring Focus Series
theme, ?Africa: Achievements and Challenges in the 21st Century.?
The annual lecture series includes a combination of lectures and
films, which are scheduled into April. The lecture series is
sponsored by VSU's Center for International Programs and
co-sponsored by the Departments of African-American Studies,
Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice, and Political
Science. Films are offered in conjunction with the Cinema
