Valdosta State University Hosts Ambassador Sylvia G. Stanfield,U.S. Department of State Diplomat-in-Residence
Valdosta State University will host Ambassador Sylvia Stanfield,
U.S. Department of State Diplomat-in-Residence on March 23,
2004.
Ambassador Stanfield will lecture on ?U.S Diplomacy and America's
Role in World Affairs: An Ambassador's Perspective? on March 23 at
7:00 p.m. in the Biology Chemistry Auditorium.
Ambassador Stanfield will make two presentations. At 3:00 p.m. she
will meet at the Center for International Programs with students
interested in the U.S. diplomatic service to discuss career
opportunities in the U.S. Foreign Service and special opportunities
in the diplomatic corps for women and minorities. The Ambassador's
7:00 p.m. lecture is free and the public is invited to
attend.
Sylvia Stanfield is a U.S. Department of State
Diplomat-in-Residence at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical
University. The Ambassador's mission is to attract talent that will
meet today's foreign policy challenges. She works to promote
interest in international affairs. She also encourages individuals
to consider student and career opportunities with the U.S. Foreign
Service. Ambassador Stanfield is a career diplomat and a member of
the United States Senior Foreign Service with the rank of
Minister-Counselor. The U.S. Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam from
1999-2002, Stanfield was Charge d?Affaires ad interim and Deputy
Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in New Zealand. She has also
served in Hong Kong, Beijing, Taipei and Taichung. Her Washington
assignments have included the Senior Seminar, Director of the
Office of Australia and New Zealand Affairs, and Director of the
Office of Taiwan Coordination Affairs.
