VSU's Alpha Gamma Delta and South Georgia Alumnae Chapters receivenational awards
Valdosta State University's Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity for
women was recently honored this summer with a national award at the
organization's Centennial International Convention held in Chicago,
Illinois. The VSU Chapter, known as Theta Sigma, and members of the
South Georgia Alumnae Chapter were both presented with the Jewel
Award for jointly raising $3000 for the Alpha Gamma Delta
Foundation, which supports Diabetes research, education, and other
philanthropic endeavors.
?We are so thankful to the members of the VSU community who greatly
assisted us in achieving this award by participating in the Alpha
Gamma Delta Lock-up and Raffle,? said collegiate President Lacey
Phillips.
The South Georgia Alumnae Chapter received the highest recognition
possible, the Outstanding Achievement Award. The award was
presented for the chapter's involvement with the local community,
support of the collegiate chapter and excellent programming for
alumnae members. There were 81 Alumnae chapters throughout the
United States and Canada competing for the award.
?We are extremely honored to be chosen,? said past President
Rebecca Murphy, who also serves as VSU's Training and Development
Director.
More than 900 Alpha Gamma Delta collegiate and alumnae members from
across North America attended the conference held July 17-21. The
meeting focused on many special programs related to the
organization's Centennial Anniversary.
Devoted to leadership, scholarship and community service, Alpha
Gamma Delta Fraternity for women was founded on May 30, 1904, at
Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. One hundred and eighty
chapters have been installed throughout the United States and
Canada with a total membership of more than 130,000 women. Alpha
Gamma Delta is one of the first national women's groups to
establish an official philanthropy.
