Learning in Retirement Program Fall Term starting soon
The Learning in Retirement Program (LIR) will start its Fall
Term on Sept. 7. All classes are at the Regional Center for
Continuing Education unless otherwise noted.
The LIR President Joyce Aigen recently hosted a Back to School Fall
Luncheon and Social to welcome all members. ?We are looking forward
to sharing a great learning experience with each and everyone of
you,? Aigen said.
The program is open to individuals 50 years of age and older. Its
mission is to provide a unique opportunity for cultural growth,
lifelong learning, and recreation. LIR is sponsored by the
university and led by its own members.
Registration is accepted on a first come, first-served basis. Some
classes will start after Sept. 7 so registration will still be open
until those classes begin. Fall term membership is $35. The program
recently started offering a yearly membership for $90 that includes
fall, winter, and spring. LIR currently consists of 167 members
with 49 being newly enrolled. Aigen hopes to break their record of
197 active members.
LIR has a wide variety of classes, from computer courses to fine
arts. The courses are just like those in the university program,
but neither tests nor grades are distributed. In addition to
courses, they schedule leisure activities, field trips and tours of
facilities located in Valdosta. LIR has more than 50 courses
available, which meet during the day and usually once a week for
convenience. ?Some of our members may take one course, while some
may enroll in 15 or more courses,? said Suzanne Ewing, LIR
Coordinator.
Individuals interested in the program can register in person, by
phone, mail, or fax. For more information, please visit their
