Dr. John G. Youmans' estate leaves a legacy to VSU with funds forthe Crockett-Youmans Dance Scholarship

The estate of Dr. John G. Youmans has bequeathed $80,450 to the Valdosta State University Foundation Inc. The funds will be added to proceeds from a gift annuity Dr. Youmans established several years ago to fund VSU's Crockett-Youmans Dance Scholarship. The loan fund, with a total value of $100,000, was set up to benefit VSU students studying dance.

Dr. Youmans, who once held a faculty position at Valdosta State College, died in March of this year at the age of 84 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

?We are so appreciative to Dr. Youmans for his support of VSU over the years,? said Sandra Fletcher, VSU's Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts.

Youmans was a supporter of the arts at Valdosta State and was a patron to the VSU Theatre and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra said VSU staff member Joan Dear. She and her husband, Allan, were close friends of Youmans.

?John was a generous man and he certainly has left a legacy,? said Dear.

Professor Eric Nielsen, VSU's Director of Dance, said the impact of the Crockett-Youmans Dance Scholarship in helping gifted VSU dancers achieve their goals at VSU will be tremendous.

?On behalf of the dance faculty, I would like to extend our thanks for the generous gift from John Youmans,? said Nielsen. ?John was always a big supporter of VSC dance concerts and expressed a sincere desire to help the future growth of our program.?

Nielsen added, ?We are extremely grateful. Bless you John for making this dream come true!?
