Science Seminar Series presents Stem Cell Research program

Dr. Steven Stice, University of Georgia Professor and director of the Regenerative Bioscience Center, will speak in the Hugh C. Bailey Science Center Auditorium on February 6, beginning at 7 p.m. as part of Valdosta State University’s Science Seminar Series. The series is sponsored through VSU’s departments of Biology and Sociology.

Stice’s seminar will cover “Developing Stem Cells for Cell Therapy and Drug Discovery.” Before taking the stage, Nikole Grabb, biology major, will speak about student based advocacy groups and their roles in promoting stem cell research and awareness. Afterwards, Nikole’s father, Ron Grabb, a 10+ year Parkinson’s patient, will also speak. Mr. Grabb, a Georgia State coordinator for the Parkinson’s Action Network, will discuss not only his life experience with the disease, but also about the status of stem cell bills now before Congress.

“The Science Seminar Series is designed to make students and anyone else who attends fully aware of issues in science research,” Dr. David L. Bechler, biology professor, said. “This seminar will bring people up to date on stem cell biology and raise issues people need to think about.”
