VSU Forensics team brings home Second Place Honors

Valdosta State University’s forensics team placed second in the overall team sweepstakes at the University of West Florida Marks Invitational in Pensacola on March 2-4.

There were 11 colleges and universities that participated in the competition with VSU finishing ahead of all except Florida State University. “This was a great combined team effort,” said team coach Dr. Mike Eaves. The team consisted of William Finney, Brad Moody, and Karen Nelson.

Debaters Moody and Finney were both semifinalists. Each received a perfect score of 30 in two separate preliminary debates. Finney, in only his second impromptu tournament, was a finalist in impromptu speaking that consisted of 15 competitors. Nelson competed in program oral interpretation and finished with fourth place honors in her first college meet.

This was the team’s last competition for the academic year. The team is currently looking for students in all majors to compete next fall. Students interested should contact Dr. Mike Eaves at 229-259-5116 or meaves@valdosta.edu.
