Centennial Committee Announces Student Art Competition andExhibition

VALDOSTA - The Valdosta State University Centennial Steering Committee is now accepting entries into the VSU Centennial Student Art Competition and Exhibition.

The competition is designed to celebrate the artistic presentation of VSU’s community and campus as well as to promote and reward student artistic achievement, according to Dr. Sharon Gravett, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. Entries must focus on any aspect of the campus or community of VSU (present or historical), including its architecture, campus, events or people. Submitted works will be accepted in any traditional and contemporary media, including panting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, digital media, ceramics and jewelry. Any VSU student enrolled during fall semester 2007 is eligible to enter up to three submissions. Artwork must have been completed while the artist was a VSU student and must not have been previously exhibited on VSU campus.

The competition opened Tuesday, Sept. 4; submissions will be accepted until Jan. 7, 2008. Judges will evaluate entries based on originality and artistic excellence, choosing the best for exhibition during spring semester. The first round of judging will take place Jan. 8-25, 2008, and artists will be notified of selections by Feb. 1, 2008. First place ($400), second place ($300), and third place ($200), winners will be announced at the exhibition’s opening reception March 3, 2008.
