VSU Model UN Awarded at Southern Regional Competition
VALDOSTA - Valdosta State University’s Model UN team excelled at
the Southern Regional Model United Nations competition held
Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 15-17, in Atlanta.
VSU students represented the United States and Azerbaijan as they
competed against 75 teams and almost 700 students. Exceptional
performances earned VSU a Distinguished Delegation Award, which
placed them in the top 10 percent. The 18-member team also captured
one of five awards for Best Position Paper.
"These students dedicated many hours of work to prepare for the
conference and they represented VSU extremely well,” Carol Glen,
said.
She said special recognition should be given to Sabrina White, the
President of VSU Model UN, who received the Best Delegate Award for
her work on the Security Council committee.
“Sabrina not only led the team to this impressive success, she also
received a Best Delegate Award in her own right,” Glen said. “She
accurately represented the foreign policy positions of the United
States on the Security Council, which is the most challenging
committee at the conference."
The VSU chapter was established 20 years ago to give students the
opportunity to imagine new solutions to existing world problems.
Model UN team members participate each year in the Southern Region
Model UN conference in Atlanta and the National Model UN conference
in New York. The Model UN program is open to all VSU students
regardless of major or experience.
