Housing Hosts Reslife Bucks Auction, Opens Online Store
VALDOSTA - On-campus students, who have been collecting Reslife
Bucks throughout the semester, will have the opportunity to bid on
electronics, VSU merchandise and more during the annual Reslife
Bucks Auction at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the old gymnasium. Students
who attend will receive $30 worth of bucks to be used at the
auction and those who complete the event evaluation will receive an
extra $50 worth of bucks.
On-campus students have had the opportunity to attend events,
programs, lectures and activities throughout the semester in order
to acquire Reslife Bucks from the Office of Housing and Residence
Life at Valdosta State University. With options of personal
enrichment, community service, residence hall events and more,
students earned from $10 - $300 in Reslife bucks for participation,
based on the type of program.
Last minute opportunities to earn bucks are available throughout
the day. For a full list of events, visit the Reslife Bucks
Calendar at
http://easapps.valdosta.edu:7777/pls/apps/f?p=118:1:5109633974260771
. Accessible through BlazeNet and the Housing Web site, this
calendar displays information about all residence hall
events.
Students who don’t attend the auction can still purchase select
items through the new online store, which opened in October 2007.
Open 24-hours a day, students can spend their Reslife bucks or use
the ATM feature to share bucks with their friends. A minimum of
$375 Reslife Bucks is required to shop at the online store.
Students may also choose to carry their balance over through spring
semester.
The Reslife Bucks program was initiated in fall 2006 as an effort
to encourage on-campus students to engage in opportunities for
diversity, community service and learning outside the
classroom.
“We established the program to give students a fun opportunity to
be civically engaged and always learning,” Njeri Pringle, Patterson
Hall director, said. “We as a department are invested in living and
learning outside the classroom.”
Pringle said that Residence Life hopes to expand the program to all
students. She is discussing options with several departments to
create a partnership to help the effort, which will benefit
students and improve the successfulness of these events. If
successful, all VSU students will be eligible to receive bucks for
activities campus-wide.
Call Pringle at (229) 245-3736 or the Offices of Housing and
Residence Life at (229) 333-5920 for more information.
