VSU Hosts 2010 Online Lifeline Conference
VALDOSTA -- The 2010 Online Lifeline Conference, which focuses
on classroom technology and online instruction for institutional
educators and personnel, will be held Feb. 17-19 at Valdosta State
University’s Regional Center for Continuing Education.
The three-day educational summit will begin Thursday, Feb. 17, with
pre-conference workshops followed by the HUB Social and Technology
Showcase at 5:30 p.m. in The Crescent Auditorium, 904 N. Patterson
St. The networking event will include an informative poster session
and opportunities to trial new interactive technologies.
On Friday, conference participants can attend four of 15 concurrent
sessions about the use of technology in course instruction. At 10
a.m., Dr. Melanie N. Clay, associate dean of USG eCore and Extended
Degree Programs, will deliver the keynote address, “Online Student
Success - It's Meant to Happen.” Dr. Mark Taylor, nationally
recognized educator and technology consultant, will give the
feature presentation titled, “Effective Use of Clickers,” from noon
until 1:15 p.m.
Jon Sizemore, assistant director for distance learning at VSU, said
the 2010 Online Lifeline Conference is an opportunity to get
together with professional colleagues to learn and share successful
strategies for teaching with technology.
“Networking with faculty across the campus and the University
System opens dialogs and collaborations that benefit everyone.
Participants discover ways to improve instruction, increase access
for students, and help ease workloads," Sizemore said. "Today in
education, technology is one of the tools of the trade - this
conference gives us a chance to develop our technology
craftsmanship.”
The conference is open to faculty and staff members from any
institution. Registration is $25, and includes continental
breakfast and lunch. Presenters and co-presenters can register for
$10. Visit
