Admission to the MAcc is only possible after the student is admitted to VSU's Graduate School. Application deadlines are on the VSU Graduate School website.  The VSU Graduate School has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.  For an applicant whose first language is not English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score is required and considered. For any applicant who has attended a university overseas, the VSU Graduate School requires a transcript evaluation. The VSU Graduate School allows a maximum of six semester credit hours (SCHs) to be transferred from another school.  Most applicants must take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). More details are available at VSU’s Graduate School website GMAT and TOEFL (if applicable) tests must be dated within the last two years ending with the application deadline date specified on the VSU Graduate School webpage.

In assessing an applicant’s likelihood of successfully completing the MAcc program, the MAcc Director evaluates the entire application packet, including GMAT scores (on the test and the analytical writing assessment), the undergraduate grade point average, and whether the undergraduate school is AACSB accredited. In addition to the VSU application, the applicant should also include a resume.

An undergraduate degree in accounting is not required for admission, but each MAcc course has one or more prerequisites.  An applicant without an undergraduate accounting degree must complete the VSU courses below with a grade of “C” or better or complete equivalent courses at an AACSB-accredited school of business.  All applicants must complete ACCT 3203 – External Reporting or its equivalent.

Admission

  • To meet the minimum requirements for admission, applicants must attain a minimum of 950 points on the College of Business Administration Graduate Admission Formula (see below), while meeting both the minimum grade-point average requirement and test score requirement.

Total Points = GMAT score + (200 x GPA)        

  • Applicants who receive a score of 1100 on the admissions formula will be automatically accepted.
  • Those who receive a score of 950-1099 will go into the applicant pool and be ranked.  After automatic acceptances (1100 or higher) have been confirmed, applicants will be selected from the pool up to the program limit.
  • The MAcc program is a full-time, one-year program.  It consists of six accounting courses and four student-chosen electives.  Upon completion of the program, graduates who also hold an undergraduate accounting degree will have fulfilled the educational requirements to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination in Georgia. 

Under certain conditions, undergraduate students are allowed by the VSU Graduate School to take up to nine SCHs for graduate credit without being admitted to the Graduate School. (See ADMISSION CLASSIFICATIONS, 4. Irregular) This allows a transition period for on-campus students who are in the “bridge” semester (i.e., finishing their undergraduate degree but who want to begin to take MAcc classes).  These students must be admitted to the VSU Graduate School and the MAcc program to take more than nine SCHs.
