Numerous scholarship opportunities are available for students of the College of Science and Mathematics. A list of these scholarships can be found below, most of which do not require an application as the recipients will be selected by each Department.

Andy Koppy Memorial Scholarship

This annual endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Andy Koppy and is awarded to student(s) majoring in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems, who is/are also minoring in German. The recipient(s) must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average in all courses and are chosen annually on the basis of ability, promise, and need by an agreed decision from the Department Head of Computer Science and Engineering Technology and the Senior Professor of German in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages.

Commander's High School Scholarship

The AFROTC Detachment Commander may select one high school senior each year and award a full scholarship. This scholarship pays full (100%) college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. Selectees will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend. Note: AFROTC scholarships do not cover room and board.

Commander's In-College Scholarship

The AFROTC Detachment Commander may select one current cadet each year and award a full scholarship, which covers the remainder of the cadet's undergraduate education. This scholarship pays full (100%) college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an Air Force ROTC detachment. Selectees will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend. Note: AFROTC scholarships do not cover room and board. 

David and Cecelia Ratcliffe Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding VSU student (or students) majoring in biology, who has been involved in research and has the potential to contribute to the field of biology. Recipients are selected by faculty of the Department of Biology.

Elizabeth Lohmar Award

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior or returning senior mathematics major who has maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average, and who has displayed a combined interest in scholastic and extracurricular activities. Recipients are selected by the department of Applied Mathematics and Physics.

General Charles McGee Leadership Award (CMLA)

This in-college scholarship is awarded to all individuals not already on scholarship who receive an enrollment allocation and thus are selected to commission into the Air or Space Force. It pays $18,000 per year for two years and cannot be applied to graduate studies. Note: AFROTC Scholarships do not cover room and board.

In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP)

For students already enrolled, they can still experience the benefits of joining Air Force ROTC. In addition to detachment-specific scholarship opportunities, freshman and sophomore students may be eligible for the In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP). The program awards scholarships based on merit during two selection phases (fall and spring semesters).  Note: AFROTC scholarships do not cover room and board.

James E. Martin Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor the memory of James E. Martin. The scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in physics (NOT available for students on the Engineering Track). The scholarship can be renewed for up to three years if the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average in all courses required for the physics major. Recipients are selected by the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics.

Julia Wisenbaker Sumerford Scholarship

This non-renewable scholarship is offered to outstanding students in the fields of chemistry and nursing. In the even numbered years, the award will be made to the student majoring in the field of chemistry. In the odd-numbered years, the award will be made to a nursing student.

Dr. M. Elizabeth (Betty) Derrick Award

According to the provisions of the Dr. Betty Derrick's estate, this scholarship will support outstanding female students who are majoring in chemistry.  Recipients are selected by the Department of Chemistry and Geosciences.

Mack Varnedoe Greer, Sr., MD Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a rising biology senior of outstanding character, with a GPA of at least 3.5, who plans to pursue a career in medicine. Recipients are selected by faculty of the Department of Biology.

Marsha Paulk Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Ray Bowden and Pamela P. Bowden in memory of Pamela Bowden’s sister, a former student at VSU. One or more scholarships are awarded annually to student(s) majoring in biology and pursuing the career goal of becoming physician assistants. The recipient(s) are selected by faculty of the Department of Biology.

Martha Barnes Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to biology students pursuing a course of study in pre-medicine or pre-veterinary. Two students at each grade level are selected by faculty of the Department of Biology.

Mrs. Maya Goel Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Mrs. Maya Goel. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior or returning senior mathematics major who has maintained at least a 3.3 grade point average. Recipients are selected by the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics.

Paul Scott Marty Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to any outstanding freshman or sophomore to support a student's education on the basis of academic or other achievements in AFRTOC.

Stuart Parker Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to any outstanding freshman or sophomore to support a student's education on the basis of academic or other achievements in AFROTC.

Threadgill-Thompson Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the Lovell Engineering Associates, PC (LEA), a local engineering consulting firm in Valdosta, Georgia. The scholarship is awarded to VSU Engineering students enrolled in the Regents’ Engineering Pathway (REP) program who are Georgia residents, in their second year of their study at VSU engineering and plan to transfer to the engineering program at University of Georgia. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and provide documentation that he/she has communicated with University of Georgia College of Engineering regarding a plan to transfer to that program. A scholarship recipient will be selected by a committee comprised of faculty of engineering at VSU as well as well as an appointee of the LEA engineering firm every year after reviewing the academic records of all qualified students.

You Can Fly Scholarship

The Detachment Commander may pick a limited number of cadets to apply this scholarship toward earning an FAA Private Pilot Certificate. The intent is to create a robust Rated Officer applicant pool with diverse backgrounds that can solve tomorrow's global challenges by providing combat air lethality with agility and resolve. Additionally, this program increases the awareness of flying careers with a compelling outreach designed to inform, influence, and inspire AFROTC cadets from underrepresented communities.
